Protest for repeal of Bodh Gaya Temple Management BTMC Act 1949

On the initiative of the President Ladakh Buddhist Association and All Ladakh Gonpa Association, a one-day sit-in protest (Dharna) was organized at Bodh Gaya today on 13th Jan 2026 with the demand to repeal the BTMC act of 1949 and to handover the entire management of the Mahabodhi Mahavihara temple to the Buddhist. A large number of laymen, laywomen and venerable monks/nuns from Ladakh participated in the sit-in protest Dharna. 

Speaking on the occasion, Sh Chering Dorjay President of LBA and Ven Dorjay Stanzin President of LGA explained that this sit-in protest is organized in support of many different Buddhist organization such as the one led by All India Buddhist Forum vociferously demanding the repeal of the BTMC Act of 1949. They also appeal to the Govt of India/Govt of Bihar to take favourable steps to repeal the BTMC Act of 1949 which was enacted before the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950.
